Jazz
Jazz is a style of dance that is seen in many Broadway type shows such as “Cats”. It is a more structured, stage style of dance than styles such as hip hop. Jazz dancing is entertaining to watch, fun and active to participate in. Jazz features a combination of unique moves, intricate footwork, leaps and quick turns. Jazz enhances a dancers grace and balance.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is easiest described as a combination of jazz and ballet. It is faster than ballet, but not as fast as jazz. Our lyrical dance classes combine the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom and airier aspects of jazz, and modern dance.
Most lyrical dance pieces are performed to music with lyrics and the lyrics of the song are what the choreography of the dance is based on. The songs chosen usually express very strong emotions, like love, joy and anger.
Lyrical dance is a very fluid and relaxing way to express emotion through dance. It is a very passionate form of dance that many students learn is a great outlet and release of emotion. This type of class builds off of skills that are typically learned in ballet and jazz classes, so we like to recommend that student have a background in either or both of those styles to really benefit from this type of class.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is a style that typically deals with the abstract in both form and content. Unlike other more structured forms of dance, the movements are generally intended to be performed with a released or relaxed quality and can be completely improvised. Contemporary dance is very fluid in nature and in addition, it draws influences from many different dance styles and cultures such as, African jazz, jazz music, ballet, and eastern dance styles just to name a few.
Hip Hop
Hip-hop dance is one of the most popular styles of dancing. Movements in hip-hop dance are less fluid than other dance styles. One thing that separates hip-hop dance from other forms of dance is that hip-hop is often more improvisational. Hip-hop is known for its cool moves and quick spins.
