***Please Note: For the security of your child, the Lyric Theatre locks the backstage door once the performance begins.  Our staff will not answer the door, and dancers will not be released to leave backstage until AFTER their final bow. Please do not ask any of our staff to allow your child to leave once their class has performed. Sit back and enjoy the show.

What to bring & not bring with you

Dancers are allowed to bring backstage:

  • Water Bottle
  • Dry snacks such as pretzels or crackers
  • Cell phone

Please do not bring messy snacks like chocolate or any colored drinks.

Costume, Hair & Make-Up

Costume

DAS provides costumes and headpieces for the Nutcracker. These costumes are kept backstage and are not allowed out of the theatre.

Each dancer is responsible for purchasing the following items:

Female Dancers

  • Light pink tights
  • Light pink leather ballet slippers
  • Nude camisole leotard

Male Dancers

  • Male dancers will be given a list of what they will need based on their part.

Other things to keep in mind

  • Please ensure tights have no runs or holes and ballet slippers are clean.
  • Underwear should be nude and not have any prints.

Certain parts may require additional items or different shoes. (For example, party girls need a curly ponytail extension. We will contact individual dancers with what specifically they need.)

Jewelry

Dancers should not wear any jewelry except simple stud earrings.

Hair

Female Dancers

  • Bun: A bun means the hair is tight to the head with no bangs or loose, wispy hairs falling around the neck or face.  The bun must be secure, flat, and larger than the size of your palm.  Do not use a donut or buns made out of braids. Buns should be at the back of the head (not on top) to make room for headpieces.
  • Party Girls & Party Parents must purchase and wear a drawstring curly ponytail hairpiece that will attach easily over bun.

Male Dancers

  • Hair should be off the face and styled neat and tidy. Hair spray and/or gel should be used as needed.

Makeup

Parents know their kids better than anyone else does, so they may be better equipped to gauge what their little ones can handle when for the patience and cautiousness that comes with a full face of makeup.

Typically less is more when it comes to stage makeup for kids but it is important to apply some makeup to make dancers more visible to the audience and the overall look of the performance.

Female Makeup should include

  • Foundation
  • Blush
  • Eye Shadow
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Lipstick (Please do not send dancers under 10 years old with lipstick)

Fingernails: Only natural color nails. No long acrylic nails or French manicures.
